Planning for the future

We wanted to let you know that we are starting our first test with promoting pins today, so you may spot a few in your search results or category feeds on the web or in mobile apps. Here’s what they look like:

promoted pins

They work just like regular pins, only they have a special “promoted” label, along with a link to learn more about what that means. Remember we’re still just testing things out right now, so we’d really like to hear what you think. We’ll be listening closely to what you have to say and will continue to keep you posted about how things go.

Thanks for everything you do to help make Pinterest a great service for pinners. Millions of people use Pinterest to discover and do things they love, and we want to be sure it’s a service that will be here to stay.

To help make sure it does, we’re going to start experimenting with promoting certain pins from a select group of partners. For this first test, we’ll promote a few pins in search and category feeds to get a feel for how they work. We’ll then use what we learn to figure out what kind of products and tools we should build down the road to help partners like you get the most out of Pinterest.

You can read more about how we’re thinking about the future of Pinterest in this letter from Ben, our co-founder and CEO.

Thanks for pinning with us!
