Pinterest: The new home for the holidays

  • It might be hard to believe, but with October coming up it’s time to start thinking beyond pumpkin spice lattes: Millions of early planners have already started Pinning for the winter holidays.

With 170 million holiday decor Pins (and 3 million ugly sweater Pins), Pinterest is the one-stop shop for holiday ideas big and small—and these numbers just keep growing. From 2013 to 2014, the number of holiday Pins grew by 50%.

    Tis the season...to shop!

Don’t forget: Holidays on Pinterest aren’t just about tinsel and Santa hats, they’re also about shopping. It’s no secret that Pinners love to buy. 47% of Pinners start shopping for the holidays before Thanksgiving, according to Civic Science. (That number’s only 39% for shoppers in general!)

Want to take your Pinning from ho-hum to ho-ho-ho? Here are a few tips to get your holidays off to a great start:

    • Visit your audience analytics to see what kinds of things your audience likes
    • Create seasonal content that maps to your audience’s interests
    • Add text overlay and descriptions to make your Pins more click-worthy. When somebody clicks a Pin to see it close-up, they’re 1.6X more likely to convert
    • Reach even more Pinners by using Promoted Pins
