Our summer fashion forecast, from sundresses to sunglasses

summer fashion 2016

By tracking the things people save on Pinterest, we’re often onto trends before they even hit the streets. (Believe it or not, by February we know which swimsuits everyone will be wearing in June!)

So what’s going to be hot this summer? For women, we’re seeing swimsuits with clever cuts, bright and breezy sundresses and sandals with a flirty side. Meanwhile, the men are all about statement sunglasses, classic tees and woven-leather shoes. Here’s more on these trends:

What women want...
  • Swimsuits: One-pieces are up 139% over last year, and the top looks embody subtle sophistication with details like cut-outs and lace.
  • Sundresses: This season's styles range from short and sweet boho whites to cheerful floral prints. In the past year, people have saved 87% more sundress Pins overall, and 21% more embroidered looks, specifically.
  • Sandals: Fringe sandals are taking over Pinterest, with a 300% surge over last year. Gladiator sandals, both bold and delicate, are also up 39%.
Gentlemen prefer...
  • Sandals: Men are reviving the woven-leather appeal of huaraches, and saves for these sandals have increased by 66% this year. They’re also digging gladiator-style Roman and toe-loop looks.
  • Sunglasses: Men on Pinterest are saving statement shades worthy of a double-take, like these luxury aviators and quirky conversation-starters.

Connect with this crowd by saving Pins around these trends. You can offer styling tips for those fringe sandals, help people pack for that summer road trip or suggest seaside getaways where they can flaunt that new one-piece—whatever it is, get creative and have fun. Summer’s the time to play, after all!

Oh, and one more thing...

We’re packing our bags for Cannes Lions this year! Thanks to the stylish people of Pinterest, we’ve got our wardrobes all figured out—and thanks to the jurors of Cannes we’ve got some great ideas for what to do, see and eat while we’re there!

The verdict: we’ll be bringing sunglasses and empty sketchpads, strolling down the Croisette and sharing good food with good people at Mantel and Colombe d’Or. See you there?
