Into the woods

There's no better way to say 'I love you' than spending time with your favourite person in close, cosy quarters. Searches for tiny cabins (+578% YoY) and tiny houses (+35% YoY) are heating up.

People on Pinterest are busting out their hammers and building new life into their homes with updates big and small. The most popular renovations and additions this month are basement remodels (+60% YoY), shiplap walls (+30% YoY) and coffee bars (+26% YoY).

Throwing shade

Searches for mulled-wine-coloured hair have grown 174% YoY, proving that plenty of people want to spice up their hair with this deep shade of red. Skin-tone nails are also trending, with searches for nude nails up by 33% YoY.

Snow much fun

Go green

With the climate in mind, people on Pinterest are ready to reduce, reuse and recycle. Searches for sustainable gifts (+126% YoY) and sustainable fashion brands (+49% YoY) are seeing natural growth, which is no surprise considering that zero-waste travel (+74% YoY)1 was a Pinterest 100 trend for 2019.

Use insights to inspire your next campaign

Work these trends into your next campaign to reach people as they’re deciding what to try or buy next. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Tiny homes are a big hit, but it can be hard for people to visualise everything that can fit inside. Share your ideas for space-saving shelving and minimalist décor to help people building their own tiny home.

  • If you're in the food industry, show people how they can use your product to add a new flavour to their snow cream. Try some of these: Biscuits, fruit, sweets or syrups.

  • Turn activewear into everyday wear. Provide examples of how hiking boots, puffer jackets and other sportswear can be mixed with style classics like jeans and jumpers for everyday wear that pulls double duty.
