1. Put a bow on it with mobile

Over 80% of Pinners access Pinterest on their mobile device.5 What’s more, m-commerce is expected to account for 44% of total holiday e-commerce spending this year.6

To reach holiday shoppers on their phones, make sure that your ads are mobile-friendly. Remember the best inspiration often comes when people are on the go. Facilitate easy, exciting shopping experiences by keeping text overlay concise, and stop shoppers mid-scroll with easy-to-shop Product Pins.

2. Let your product be the star of your brand’s story

Visual shopping helps holiday shoppers more easily find gifts they love—cutting down on their search time. Provide the immersive experience they’re looking for with our newest ad format, Promoted Carousel. With Promoted Carousel, you can include multiple images within a single Pin—telling people a deeper brand story, and getting them excited about why your product is the perfect present for that special person on their list.

3. Deck your campaign with your best-performing creative

With so much competition out there, the holidays are no time to mess around. Make sure that you’re reaching your holiday goals by continually tracking the performance of your Promoted Pins. Ready to make your sales fly? Feed budget from your lower-performing ads to your best-performing ads. 4. Add a twinkle to their eye with trending gift ideas

Holiday shoppers are always searching for inspiration—in fact, 62 million people come to Pinterest to get ideas for the holidays.7 Give them joyful ideas by stuffing your Pins with the hottest gifts of the season. Our insights can help you figure out what’s trending this year. Spoiler alert: Terracotta candles, dainty gold rings and personalized tech are all big right now.

5. Mark your calendar and check it twice

While Black Friday will continue to be a retail pillar for holiday shopping, people are shifting to an always-on shopping mentality from Thanksgiving through Christmas. To help you plan, here are some days we’re anticipating big spikes in shopping volume:

  • 11/22: Last Thanksgiving Day, shoppers spent about $624 million shopping on their phones—beating out mobile sales from Black Friday.8

  • 12/17: Mondays tend to be the heaviest e-commerce shopping days during the holiday season as shoppers look to complete their purchases from the prior weekend.9

  • 12/22: Also known as “Panic Saturday,” half of 2017 shoppers said they’d finish their shopping on this day.10

  • 12/26: Holiday shopping doesn’t actually end with Christmas. There is also a shopping surge on December 26, suggesting that people are looking for ways to spend gift cards and make exchanges.

Here are two creative ways that brands are using Pinterest to connect with holiday shoppers this season

Kohl's, Lowe’s, Macy’s Magic Gift Globe

Our 'Gift Globe' experience lets people input information about what they’re shopping for to get personalized gift ideas—simply by shaking their phone. Once shoppers find something that catches their eye, they can checkout with the press of a button. This year, we partnered with Kohl's, Lowe's and Macy's, to create three separate Gift Globe experiences that focused on specific product categories, to help people on Pinterest discover and buy gifts they love. Each brand used Promoted Video at max. width and/or Promoted Pins to drive shoppers to the Gift Globe experience.

The Etsy Gift Finder

We also partnered with Etsy this year to develop ‘The Etsy Gift Finder’: A custom gift-finding tool that helps people discover the perfect holiday gift based on personalized descriptors. Shoppers simply fill out the virtual gift tag with unique characteristics about the person they are shopping for and receive personalized gift recommendations on Etsy. To drive awareness and engagement to the experience, Etsy used a full-funnel approach by deploying a combination of Promoted Pins and max. width Promoted Videos, produced by partner, Brit + Co.
